Description:After joining the navy for few months, Raggio decided to dedicate himself to arts and painting.
Therefore Raggio attended courses in Florence and in 1848 he traveled to Rome where he was completely fascinated by the eternal city and its countryside.
The roman countryside‘s landscapes, its inhabitants and the animals became Raggio’s painting subjects, as Baldassarre Odescalchi wrote in 1875: 'we can easily call Raggio the painter of roman countryside’s habits and traditions'.
Raggio, during his long 94 years of life, created many paintings, for the most part successfully displayed in various exhibits in Rome and in Europe.
For example some of his paintings were exhibited in Gino Costa’s art show in 1872.
In 1883 his oil on canvas the ' Malaria' was in the 'Esposizione del palazzo delle Belle Arti' in Rome; about this excellent work an art critic of the time wrote : 'the malaria, painted with deep feeling and refined emotion, is a real masterpiece … Countryside’s melancholy is effectively pointed out in the perfect way ….'
He was a good friend of spanish painter Ignacio Zuloaga; he painted for him several paintings, that gave Raggio more international prestige.
